Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly experienced Chief Clinical Perfusion Scientist to lead the Perfusion Service at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. You will provide expert clinical leadership, drive workforce planning, budgeting, and governance while supporting the expansion of the cardiac surgery programme.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years NHS experience at senior managerial or clinical level.
• Minimum 10 years Clinical Perfusion experience.
• Experience in staff development and performance management.
• Expert knowledge of highly specialised perfusion and cardiac surgical techniques.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Perfusion Science is required.
• Professional registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists (LCCP/FCCP).

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership for the Perfusion Service.
• Deliver expert perfusion care including complex CPB procedures.
• Act as senior clinical perfusion specialist supporting multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead development and review of clinical policies and evidence-based practice.
• Ensure safe operation and maintenance of perfusion equipment.
• Participate in 24-hour on-call rota and maintain clinical role.
• Lead governance, audit, quality improvement, risk management and patient safety initiatives.
• Contribute to service planning and representation at meetings.
• Line manage, appraise and develop staff; lead workforce planning and recruitment.
• Manage departmental budgets and procurement; ensure policy compliance.
• Lead research, innovation and service development projects.
• Develop stakeholder relationships and ensure regulatory governance compliance.
• Investigate incidents and implement service improvements.
