Senior Clinical Fellow In Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Main duties of the job

Main Duties:

The clinical fellow will work on the general obstetrics and gynaecology rota. This involves working a 1 in 8 on call rota on the junior registrar rota (ST3-5), which includes:

  • Weekday days (Monday-Thursday 0830-2100)
  • Weekday nights (Monday to Thursday 2000-0830)
  • Weekends of days (Saturday and Sunday 0830-2000)
  • Weekends of nights (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 2000-0830)

During coverage of the Acute Gynaecology Unit, there may be weekends where the fellow covers the AGU on call. When not on call, daytime duties include antenatal, postnatal, and gynaecology ward rounds, clinics, theatre lists, and elective caesarean sections. The delivery suite is covered by a junior registrar (ST3-5) and a consultant, while the acute gynaecology unit is run by acute gynaecology fellows between 0830 and 2100 daily. The fellow is also expected to attend weekly fetal monitoring training sessions, as St George's has a strong track record in intrapartum fetal monitoring.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
  • Full GMC registration or eligibility; MRCOG Part 1; up-to-date adult and neonatal resuscitation training; Evidence of publications; ALSO course or equivalent.
Experience
  • Clinical training equivalent to ST3-5; experience in high-risk delivery suite; ability to take full responsibility for patient care; experience in research and service development in obstetrics.
Skills
  • Ability to function at ST3-5 level on delivery suite; teaching experience; competence in acute gynaecology procedures (diagnostic laparoscopy, laparoscopic salpingectomy, SSM).
Personal
  • Organisational and IT skills; teamwork and leadership abilities; good interpersonal skills; commitment to education; self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses.
