Job summary

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Frailty for a fixed-term, full-time appointment at the Whiston site. The post requires full GMC registration and MBBS with ALS or equivalent qualifications.

This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Frailty post. This is a Fixed term whole-time post offering SCF post on the Whiston site of Mersey West Lancashire, an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment.

Main duties of the job

• Contribute to the Frailty wards Whiston.
• Work in the medical team in the Ambulatory SDEC in the Frailty Unit.
• Support the management of patients on frailty/rehab wards.
• Participate in the initial assessment and management of patients on in ED and the acute frailty unit.
• Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties.
• Work closely with the Consultants, FY1's, CT Trainees and ANPs about management of patients.
• Develop skills in managing the wards to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patients.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of application
• MBBS or equivalent medical qualifications
• ALS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable criteria

• MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
• Speciality Certificate in Geriatric Medicine
• Evidence of higher learning (to Masters' level or above)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

• Experience of a broad range of medical/surgical specialties
• Experience as a core medical trainee or has equivalent experience and competencies
• Experience of working in geriatric medicine
• Evidence of active participation in audit
• Evidence of contributing to teaching and learning of others

Desirable criteria

• Active participation in research projects
