Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a Senior Claims Negotiator to lead the investigation, assessment, negotiation and settlement of liability and material damage claims. The role involves working within delegated authority limits and engaging insurers where necessary to protect financial and reputational interests.

You will support complex property damage and personal injury claims, oversee legal service providers and experts, and help manage legacy and insolvency-related cases.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 4, ACII qualification, or CII Certificate in Insurance with extensive experience.
• Experience of handling and managing potentially high value and complex claims, including litigation in casualty portfolios.
• Demonstrable experience of fostering and maintaining relationships with Senior Management Teams, heads of service, managers, insurers, loss adjusters and solicitors.
• Experience of managing or monitoring the work of others to ensure quality and timely delivery.
• Knowledge of current legal procedures and case law relevant to liability claims.
• In-depth technical knowledge of liability claims handling and related lines such as motor and property damage.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, assess, negotiate and settle liability and material damage claims within delegated authority.
• Assist with handling complex, high-value property damage and personal injury claims and liaise with insurers when claims exceed policy limits.
• Provide support in managing legacy and insolvency-related claims, including long-tail or complex cases.
• Contribute to oversight of legal services and independent experts to ensure value for money.
