Job summary

Burns & McDonnell UK Civil/Structural Engineering delivers strategic leadership for Transmission & Distribution projects. This role acts as the technical authority, driving project success, client satisfaction and business growth across UK deliveries.

You will direct the civil design from concept to design completion, review vendor drawings, manage schedules and budgets, and ensure QA/QC across production drawings and field activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10 years civil/structural design experience.
• Expertise in National Grid TP, SSEN & SPEN procedures, CDM 2015, and Temporary Works.
• Strong knowledge of CAD/BIM software and structural analysis tools.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and engage with diverse stakeholders.
• C.Eng MICE or MIStructE, eligible to act as IDCC on National Grid Projects.

Responsibilities

• Direct the strategic civil design of major projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Act as the technical authority for civil equipment packages, specs, data sheets, RFQs, bid summaries and purchase recommendations.
• Oversee review of civil vendor drawings and data interfaces with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Drive project schedules, scope and budget, including staffing and construction planning; manage change orders.
• Apply civil expertise to set standards and author definitive studies, reports and specifications.
• Develop non-standard design solutions for complex projects and ensure constructability.
• Establish and enforce QA/QC for production drawings and construction administration; ensure field resolution of design issues.
• Escalate as final authority for field inspections, measurements and calculations for clients.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry journals.
• Cultivate relationships with clients and contractors to drive new business opportunities.
• Originating and leading business development pursuits and sales efforts.
• Direct cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve targets.
• Own project budgets and financial performance reporting to senior leadership.
• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and cross-disciplinary communication.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
