Job summary

Morgan Hunt is recruiting a Senior Civil Engineer for our Glasgow office to lead civil design across power, grid and renewable energy projects. You will coordinate drainage design, develop models and drawings, and ensure delivery within safety and standards.

Qualifications

• Formal degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline.
• Significant experience in civil engineering design, preferably in energy/power/infrastructure sectors.
• Proven drainage design experience including surface water management and calculations.
• Strong knowledge of Civil 3D and related design tools.
• Experience designing site infrastructure and earthworks.
• Ability to manage deliverables from initial design to construction support.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong report-writing, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Solid understanding of engineering standards and health & safety requirements.
• Ability to work independently and mentor junior engineers.

Job description

Morgan Hunt are working with a growing consultancy to recruit a Senior Civil Engineer to join their Glasgow office. As a Senior Civil Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery and coordination of civil engineering design across power and grid infrastructure projects, supporting the connection of renewable energy developments to the electricity network.

You will lead on key aspects of civil design, with particular responsibility for drainage design and the development of coordinated engineering models and drawings.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, clients and other technical disciplines, you will provide technical leadership, manage design deliverables and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead civil engineering design for power, grid and renewable projects, including substations and grid connections
• Deliver drainage design, including surface water management, SuDS and drainage calculations
• Produce civil engineering models and drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D
• Design site infrastructure, including earthworks, access roads, platforms, hardstandings and site levels
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and design documentation
• Coordinate civil design with structural, electrical, geotechnical and environmental disciplines
• Manage design packages, technical deliverables and project deadlines
• Provide technical leadership, design reviews and mentoring to junior engineers
• Liaise with clients, contractors, utility providers and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues
• Support projects from feasibility and planning through detailed design and construction
• Ensure designs meet relevant standards, legislation, health and safety requirements and client specifications

What you bring:

• A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Significant relevant experience in civil engineering design, ideally within the energy, power or infrastructure sectors
• Proven experience in drainage design, including surface water management and drainage calculations
• Strong working knowledge of Civil 3D
• Experience designing site infrastructure, earthworks, access roads, platforms and associated civil works
• The ability to manage civil engineering deliverables from initial design through to detailed design and construction support
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams and managing technical interfaces
• Strong technical report-writing, communication and problem-solving skills
• A sound understanding of relevant engineering standards, design practices and health and safety requirements
• The ability to work independently, take responsibility for design quality and support the development of less experienced engineers
