Job summary

Amey Ltd. is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join the Structures Assessments (CAFA) team in York with hybrid working (3 days in-office per week).

You will assess rail structures and lead design, inspection, and reporting activities across a range of assets, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with clients to meet program requirements. The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, and Chartered/Inc Engineer status or active progression, plus extensive experience with structural

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards with ICE/CIHT/IStructE.
• Proven experience with railway structure inspection, assessment and design schemes.
• Strong experience in assessment/design of major construction materials (historical materials included).
• Experience in mentoring staff and developing professional qualifications.
• Knowledge of current health, safety, environmental and sustainability legislation.
• Exposure to local/national clients (Network Rail, Local Authorities, etc.).
• Experience delivering designs/assessments to standards (Highways England/Network Rail).
• Ability to lead teams to deliver contracts on time, budget and quality.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and check technical assessment/design remits, calculations, reports and drawings per standards and client requirements.
• Lead on-site inspections and provide technical leadership where needed.
• Maintain high technical standards per Technical Specification and Amey MS/HSEQ docs.
• Apply best practice and engineering judgement within the team environment.
• Lead supervision and mentoring of junior staff in drawings, reports, calculations.
• Support training and development of staff to achieve professional qualifications.
• Engage with clients and third parties to maintain strong relationships.
• Ensure CDM and HSEQ compliance within the team.
• Assist in cost estimation and ensure delivery to programme and budget.
