About the Role

Job Purpose

The role is responsible for the technical output of Civil design as a nominated contractor’s Responsible Engineer Design (CRE-D). It involves developing civil/structural solutions from feasibility through to construction documentation, and coordinating with other disciplines during design development.

The role requires ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards, client requirements, legislation, company standards, and procedures.

This is a client-facing position, acting as a key interface during bid stages and contract execution.

Responsibilities:
  1. Act as the nominated Contractor’s Responsible Engineer Design (CRE-D) for Civil/Structural Engineering design.
  2. Lead and prepare designs in accordance with Eurocodes and NR standards across projects ranging from GRIP 1 to GRIP 5 / RIBA 2 to 5.
  3. Prepare and manage civil/structural engineering drawings, calculations, reports, and documentation to Network Rail standards and building regulations.
  4. Coordinate engineering activities to produce affordable civil/structural schemes that meet programme, safety, and environmental requirements.
  5. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design deliverables meet standards and regulations.
  6. Manage resources, including junior engineers and CAD technicians, to complete deliverables.
  7. Monitor projects to ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and procedures.
  8. Implement systems to maintain a cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approach to design and construction.
  9. Support the growth of the EPCM team through recruitment and mentoring of junior engineers.
What do we need from you

Essential:

  1. Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  2. Professional Engineer Registration with the Engineering Council (UK) and membership with an appropriate professional institution.
  3. Technical qualifications at degree level (BEng/MEng).
  4. Experience in project and team management within UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisations.
  5. Strong understanding of Eurocode, Network Rail, and associated rail standards and regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR).
  6. Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  7. Strong engineering, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  8. Valid CITB CSCS scheme card.
  9. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable:

  1. DPE / CEM / CRE-D experience.
