AZTRUM is seeking a Chartered Senior Civil Engineer in the UK to lead civil engineering, highways, flood risk, drainage design and strategic infrastructure advice across a wide range of projects.

Senior Civil Engineer

£55,000 to £62,000 + profit and performance-linked bonus

Bedford or Southampton

An established, supportive multidisciplinary consultancy is looking for an experienced Chartered Civil Engineer to take a leading role in shaping and growing its civil engineering service. This is a senior position with real autonomy, offering the chance to lead commissions, shape technical approaches and help define how the civil engineering team develops.

Working closely with the Directors and project teams, the successful candidate will lead civil engineering, highways, flood risk, drainage design and strategic infrastructure advice across a broad range of UK projects. The role combines technical delivery, client contact, mentoring, business development and long-term service growth. It will suit someone who enjoys responsibility, variety and influence, and who wants a clear route towards wider technical leadership, team leadership or senior management.

What the role involves

• Leading civil engineering input from feasibility and planning through to detailed design, construction support and completion
• Preparing and reviewing highway, access, drainage, SuDS, flood risk, levels, external works and infrastructure design information
• Identifying key constraints, risks and opportunities, including flood risk, access, services, ground conditions, buildability and authority requirements
• Reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications and reports prepared by engineers and technicians
• Managing scope, programme, fees, resources, quality, risk and change control on civil engineering commissions
• Coordinating civil engineering design with clients, consultants, contractors and wider project teams
• Supporting the Directors with fee proposals, bids, appointments, client relationships and business development
• Mentoring engineers and technicians and helping to build team capability

About you

• A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Chartered Civil Engineer status, preferably CEng MICE or equivalent, with relevant UK consultancy experience
• Strong technical capability in highways, drainage, flood risk, SuDS, external works and civil engineering design
• Experience preparing and reviewing flood risk, drainage and highway submissions for planning and technical approval
• The ability to lead projects, coordinate teams and communicate clearly with clients, authorities and consultants
• Commercial awareness of budgets, programmes, scope, risk and fee proposals
• Competence with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InfoDrainage or Causeway Flow
• A proactive, collaborative approach, with the confidence to lead, mentor and advise colleagues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The package

• Salary of £55,000 to £62,000, plus a non-contractual bonus scheme linked to profit and performance
• 30 days’ holiday including public holidays, rising by one day for each completed year of service after three years, up to a maximum of 33 days
