Job summary

Turner Lovell is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead end-to-end civil design for electricity substations across the UK, from concept to completion. The role involves client interactions, site visits, and cross-disciplinary coordination to deliver safe and compliant infrastructure.

Ideal candidates will have a Civil Engineering degree and at least 3 years’ experience in power projects, with proficiency in AutoCAD and ideally Civil 3D or Navisworks.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years’ industry experience in power transmission, substations or related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings and design reviews to monitor progress and resolve issues.
• Coordinate with internal design teams and external stakeholders to meet safety, quality and time constraints.
• Manage design risks and develop buildable engineering solutions.
• Oversee design reviews and integration with electrical and structural disciplines.
• Mentor and support junior team members.

Turner Lovell is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join a rapidly expanding engineering design consultant and grid connection contractor. Our client is renowned for delivering exceptional solutions within the power, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
As a Senior Civil Design Engineer you will:

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews to monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and maintain alignment with project scope.
• Coordinate closely with internal design teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet technical, safety, and quality requirements within time and budget constraints.
• Manage design risks and develop practical, buildable engineering solutions throughout project development and delivery.
• Oversee design reviews and ensure integration with adjacent disciplines such as electrical and structural.
• Guide and support junior members within the team.

The ideal profile is someone who has:

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of industry experience, ideally within power transmission, distribution, substations, or related infrastructure in the energy and renewables sectors.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility through handover.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in Civil 3D, Revit, or Navisworks is advantageous.
