Job summary

Turner Lovell is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead the civil design of electricity substations across the UK, from concept to completion.

You will oversee drawings, calculations and specifications for civil structures and infrastructure, attending site visits and design reviews to ensure alignment with project scope, safety and quality requirements.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in power/substation or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility to handover.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to meet technical, safety and quality requirements.
• Manage design risks and provide practical, buildable engineering solutions.
• Oversee design reviews and integration with electrical/structural disciplines.
• Guide and support junior team members.

Turner Lovell is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join a rapidly expanding engineering design consultant and grid connection contractor. Our client is renowned for delivering exceptional solutions within the power, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
As a Senior Civil Design Engineer you will:

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews to monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and maintain alignment with project scope.
• Coordinate closely with internal design teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet technical, safety, and quality requirements within time and budget constraints.
• Manage design risks and develop practical, buildable engineering solutions throughout project development and delivery.
• Oversee design reviews and ensure integration with adjacent disciplines such as electrical and structural.
• Guide and support junior members within the team.

The ideal profile is someone who has:

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of industry experience, ideally within power transmission, distribution, substations, or related infrastructure in the energy and renewables sectors.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility through handover.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in Civil 3D, Revit, or Navisworks is advantageous.
