Job summary

Safer Hand Solutions is seeking a Senior Children's Residential Support Worker in Stoke-on-Trent to join a GOOD-rated Ofsted home. You will lead, mentor, and support Residential Support Workers, deputise for the Deputy Manager, and help deliver safe, nurturing environments for young people.

The role focuses on safeguarding, care-plan implementation, and positive behaviour strategies, with clear progression towards Deputy Manager and Management roles within a national organisation.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Residential Childcare, Children and Young People’s Workforce, Health & Social Care, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years' experience within Children's Residential Care
  • Experience supporting, mentoring or supervising staff
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and child protection procedures
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours using positive approaches
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Compassionate, resilient and child-focused approach

Responsibilities

The Role As a Senior Children's Residential Support Worker, you will be a key member of the leadership team, supporting the Deputy Manager in the day-to-day running of the home and providing guidance and mentorship to Residential Support Workers.

You’ll help create a safe, stable and nurturing environment where children and young people feel supported, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting and supervising Residential Support Workers
  • Acting as a role model and mentor to the wider team
  • Deputising for the Deputy Manager when required
  • Promoting the safety, wellbeing and development of children and young people
  • Supporting the implementation of care plans and behaviour support strategies

  • Responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and incidents
  • Maintaining high-quality records, reports and documentation
  • Supporting rota planning and team performance
  • Working collaboratively with social workers, education providers and healthcare professionals
  • Supporting compliance with Ofsted regulations and Children's Home Standards

Essential Requirements
