Job description

Are you enthusiastic about making a difference in the lives of children and young people in Fife? Fife Council’s Out of School Clubs are the perfect place for you!

We support families by providing a safe and fun environment for children and young people while their parents/carers attend work, training, or further education. Our clubs offer a wide range of play-based activities that keep the children engaged and happy.

We are looking to add a peripatetic Senior Childcare Practitioner to the team that oversees the Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline and South/West Fife area. This role will involve being deployed by the Lead Officer to any of our services in the area to cover recruitment vacancies, absences or support existing staff teams. The duties will involve:

  1. overseeing the day to day running of the club.
  2. planning and supervision of activities with children and young people.
  3. supervising a small team of Childcare Practitioners.
  4. organising play areas, providing appropriate resources and equipment.
  5. creating a safe, inviting space to allow children and young people to enjoy their leisure time in their own way.
  6. encouraging independence, building self-esteem and supporting children to try new skills and experiences.
  7. providing healthy and nutritious snacks taking account of dietary and nutritional needs.
  8. supporting children and young people on a one-to-one basis when required.
  9. dealing with injuries and emergencies.
  10. building professional relationships with parents/carers and other professionals.
  11. forward thinking and being flexible in your approach.
  12. supporting the Childcare Manager with all aspects of the delivery of an effective out of school service.

We are looking for someone who:

  1. has experience of working with children and young people within a play, care or learning setting.
  2. has supervisory experience, preferably within a childcare service.
  3. holds a formal qualification such as an SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People).
  4. is fun, engaging, adaptable, and passionate about working with children and young people.

In return you will benefit from:

  1. A competitive salary of £27,087.17 to £29,508.69 (pro-rata).
  2. Access to a wide range of professional learning and training opportunities.
  3. Career progression opportunities.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland.

As this role requires SSSC registration, the successful applicant will have three months to apply for registration. If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months. More details are included in the role profile.
