Job summary

SGS is hiring in the United Kingdom for a laboratory analyst role focused on analysing water, soil and environmental samples with GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC and related techniques. You will develop methods, maintain instruments and ensure results are reported via LIMS while upholding ISO 17025 standards.

We welcome candidates from diverse chemistry backgrounds who can contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement within a leading testing, inspection and certification company.

Qualifications

• Experience in a laboratory environment with analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 or similar quality systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A chemistry-related qualification is required.
• Good computer skills and experience with laboratory software.

Job description

What You'll Be Doing

• Analysing water, soil, and environmental samples using a range of organic testing techniques.
• Operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation, including GC, GC-MS, and HPLC.
• Developing, validating, and improving test methods to enhance laboratory capability.
• Interpreting and reporting results accurately using our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Ensuring all testing is carried out in line with ISO 17025 and laboratory quality standards.
• Investigating quality issues and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborating with colleagues to deliver accurate results and exceptional service to customers.

We're open to candidates from a variety of chemistry and laboratory backgrounds. If you've worked with analytical instrumentation, environmental testing, oil & gas, petrochemical, water, industrial, or commercial laboratory services, we'd love to hear from you.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a laboratory environment, ideally with GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC, LC-MS, ICP, or similar analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 or other regulated laboratory quality systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A qualification in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
• Good computer skills, including experience using LIMS or other laboratory software.
• Full UK driving licence.
