Job summary

AIG in London is seeking a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst to lead review and ownership of catastrophe models across peril regions. You will collaborate with global teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to advance analytics and risk insights.

The role requires a PhD or Masters in Climate Science or related fields, 3+ years in catastrophe research or model development, and strong programming skills in R, Python, and SQL. Office-based in London with comprehensive rewards.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in Climate Science, Natural Hazards, Applied Statistics, or a related subject.
• 3+ years of experience in catastrophe research or model development, experience using RMS is preferred.
• Excellent understanding of the science of catastrophe modelling, and hands on experience writing model reviews and validation.
• Knowledge of catastrophe models including their strengths and weaknesses, and demonstrated expertise in the science of one or more peril regions.
• Understanding of climate change and its impact on insurance, and an interest in developing analytics and thought leadership in this area.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts in a non-technical manner.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong programming skills including R, Python, and SQL

Responsibilities

• Lead review of catastrophe models and take ownership of peril region models as directed by senior leadership.
• Support development of standardised best practices and risk perspectives across the organisation.
• Contribute to end-to-end model evaluation: validate vendor models, propose adjustments, and implement model changes.
• Assist assessment of climate change impacts on perils worldwide and engage with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Underwriting and ERM to share insights and best practices.
