Job summary

American International Group, Inc. (AIG) is seeking a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst in London to lead research on catastrophe risk and collaborate with global teams and vendors.

The role emphasizes model validation, climate risk analysis, and the development of industry-leading analytics within a supportive, inclusive culture. You will work with Hazard and Risk leaders to implement advanced analytics, validate vendor models, and contribute to AIG’s View of Risk.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in Climate Science, Natural Hazards, Applied Statistics, or a related subject.
• 3+ years of experience in catastrophe research or model development.
• Excellent understanding of catastrophe modelling science and hands-on experience writing model reviews and validation.
• Knowledge of catastrophe models and their strengths/weaknesses; expertise in one or more peril regions.
• Understanding of climate change and its impact on insurance; interest in analytics and thought leadership.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead innovative catastrophe risk research, focusing on material peril regions for AIG.
• Support development of standardized risk practices and views of risk strategy.
• Contribute to end-to-end evaluation of catastrophe models: implement AIG’s View of Risk, validate vendor models, propose adjustments.
• Collaborate with Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Underwriting, ERM and the Data Office to share insights and best practices.
