Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust seeks a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia to join the Glenfield hospital anaesthetic team. The role supports cardiothoracic surgery and related services with opportunities in peri-operative medicine and education for trainees.

The post requires high clinical standards, leadership, teaching, and active involvement in audit, governance, and service development within a growing Trust. A commitment to CPD and clinical excellence is essential.

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent required.
• Full GMC Registration required.
• Higher Specialist Training or CESR path acceptable.
• FRCA or equivalent qualification required.
• Current ALS certification.
• TOE exam may be required.
• Membership of relevant Specialist Societies desirable.
• Higher degree (MSc/MD) beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the highest clinical standards in patient management.
• Share responsibility for day-to-day patient care with colleagues.
• Promote new ways of working and integrated care across health communities.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences.
• Supervise and train junior medical staff; provide appraisal and mentoring.
• Involve in teaching, research and service administration.
• Engage in departmental leadership and governance activities.
• Contribute to CPD and revalidation requirements.
