Job summary

Nottingham City Council seeks a Policy Lead to drive energy, climate change and sustainable development strategies. You will lead policy development, coordinate initiatives, and partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver ambitious carbon reduction targets.

You will identify funding opportunities, support project delivery, and contribute to the Carbon Neutral Action Plan with technical and project input. Hybrid working arrangements apply across roles.

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Worker Type: Hybrid Worker

Salary: Starting Salary is £37,563 (Level one), rising to £40,444 (Level four) per annum (pro rata for part-time)

About the Role

• To lead the development of energy, climate change and other sustainable development policies, strategies and targets, and ensure they are met.
• To develop, implement and advise upon environmental and sustainability initiatives and policy, and support the integration of sustainable principles and practices within Council services and through partnership-focused initiatives.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• To lead the development of plans to deliver carbon neutral status to NCC and the city of Nottingham.
• To work collaboratively with colleagues across NCC, and with stakeholders around Nottingham and beyond, to ensure strategy documents are ambitious but deliverable, and have strong buy-in from across the city.
• To identify funding opportunities to help meet ambitions on energy, fuel-poverty, waste and climate change, and support the Head of Carbon Reduction Projects and Policy in taking advantage of those opportunities through, for example, developing funding bids.
• To support the Head of Carbon Reduction Projects and Policy and members of the CN28 & Air Quality Strategy Board with technical and project support in order to ensure that organisation change, and actions found within the Carbon Neutral Action Plan are delivered.
