Job summary

Rolls-Royce SMR is seeking a Senior Engineer - Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Functional Design to lead the C&I design for process plant systems at a pioneering nuclear facility. You will elicit requirements, develop control strategies, and produce high-quality C&I design documentation used for plant automation.

You will collaborate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Operations and Safety teams to define plant behaviour under normal and fault conditions, shaping the automation philosophy of

Qualifications

• Experience delivering C&I system design in regulated industries.
• Translate operational requirements into functional control designs.
• Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
• Experience developing P&IDs and related documents.
• Familiarity with ISA-88/ISA-106 and IEC standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as the C&I focal point for process plant systems and automation packages.
• Capture and manage control system requirements with stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain Control Philosophies, FDS and C&I documents.
• Produce Cause & Effect matrices, interlock documentation and logic specs.
• Review P&IDs and support instrument and field device selection.
• Define setpoints, tolerances and calibration requirements.
• Coordinate C&I activities across multidisciplinary teams.
• Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews and risk mitigation.
