As we continue to evolve and innovate, we’re looking for a talented Senior Buyer to help lead and shape the future of our product strategy.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Buying, the Senior Buyer plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the overall strategic direction of Majestic’s product range. You’ll lead and mentor Buyers and buying assistants (where applicable), taking full ownership of your buying categories and overseeing areas of significant strategic and commercial importance.

This is a senior leadership role within the Buying team, responsible for delivering a market-leading product range that delivers both quality and value to our customers. You’ll drive sustainable growth and profitability, using customer insight, market trends and commercial data to ensure Majestic maintains its competitive edge.

Key Responsibilities:

Own and deliver the buying and selling strategy for your assigned categories.
Shape the product range using customer insight, commercial performance, and market trends to drive growth and differentiation.
Lead range reviews, identify NPD opportunities and cost-saving initiatives to optimise performance.
Anticipate shifts in customer preferences and respond proactively with strategic decisions.
Lead high-level commercial negotiations with key suppliers to drive value and performance.
Build and manage long-term, collaborative supplier relationships that align with Majestic’s quality and ethical standards.
Set and manage clear supplier KPIs, leveraging data to support performance and improvement.

Financial Performance & KPIs

Be accountable for delivering sales, profit, gross margin and supplier income targets for your categories.
Use data to track performance and adjust strategies accordingly to maximise growth and profitability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Commercial Planning, Supply Chain and Retail to ensure alignment and effective execution of category strategies.
Lead or support strategic business projects to drive efficiencies and deliver company-wide improvements.

Sourcing & Product Development

Plan and lead international sourcing trips to discover new products, assess suppliers, and stay ahead of market trends.
Champion innovation and NPD that responds to evolving customer needs and market opportunities.
Share deep product expertise with the wider business, running tastings, training sessions and briefings.
Support the development of Buyers and Buying Administrators, providing coaching, mentorship and guidance.
Continuously improve buying processes to drive efficiency and better outcomes.
Take ownership of your professional development and support the growth of others in the team.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Proven Buying Experience: Minimum 5 years in a commercial buying role, ideally within retail, grocery or the alcohol industry. Wine & Spirits experience highly desirable.
Commercial Acumen: Strong analytical and numerical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
Product Knowledge: Passion for wine and deep understanding of product, market and customer behaviour.
Supplier Negotiation: Exceptional negotiation skills and a track record of building high-performing supplier relationships.
WSET Qualifications: WSET Level 3 is desirable. Diploma or MW highly advantageous.
Leadership: Experience managing or mentoring team members, with the ability to inspire, lead and support others.
Communication: Confident communicator with strong influencing and presentation skills.
International Experience: Comfortable with international travel for sourcing and supplier meetings.
Strategic Thinking: Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate both strategically and operationally.
Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with buying systems, data analysis tools, and digital workflows.
Ethics & Integrity: Committed to upholding Majestic’s ethical and professional standards in all buying activity.
