Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a skilled Bridge Inspector for a 12-month contract with a local authority in Chichester. You will review and sign off bridge inspection reports, perform site inspections, and ensure compliance with standards and best practice.

You will support asset management and risk assessment across the highway structures portfolio. The role requires extensive experience in bridge engineering, inspection reporting, and knowledge of industry standards.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in bridge engineering and highway structures.
• Extensive experience undertaking bridge and structural inspections.
• Knowledge of Bridge Inspection Methodologies and Structural Assessment Processes.
• Familiar with Asset Management Principles and Inspection Reporting Requirements.
• Experience reviewing and approving inspection reports.
• Knowledge of industry standards and approval procedures for highway structures.
• Ability to identify structural defects and risks.
• Experience in producing and reviewing technical reports and recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Undertake technical review and approval of bridge and highway structure inspection reports.
• Ensure inspection reports comply with current standards and best practice.
• Carry out Principal, General and Special Inspections of bridges and highway structures.
• Assess the condition of structures and identify defects and risks.
• Provide technical assurance and quality control for inspection findings.
• Review inspection data and prepare technical reports on condition and asset performance.
• Identify maintenance and improvement requirements.
• Support development of programmes of work for bridge maintenance and improvements.
• Ensure compliance with highway and structural engineering standards.
• Advise on asset management and risk management activities.
• Participate in site visits and condition surveys.
• Liaise with contractors and stakeholders regarding findings and recommendations.
• Provide technical support to asset management and engineering teams.
• Maintain records of inspections and asset information.
• Assist with developing inspection procedures and quality standards.
• Monitor and report on structural risks and safety concerns.
• Contribute to effective management of highway structures asset portfolio.
