Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to support a major highways infrastructure project involving design and assessment of bridges, culverts and retaining walls. The role will focus on hands-on bridge design and is offered on a contract basis, with the flexibility to work remotely or from Manchester one day per week.

You will undertake detailed design, apply Eurocodes/DMRB, mentor juniors, and collaborate with project teams to deliver high-quality outputs.

Qualifications

• Extensive bridge engineering experience in highways or civil infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, UK bridge design standards and DMRB.
• Experience designing and assessing bridges and civil structures.
• Proficiency in bridge design software and structural analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Undertake detailed design and assessment of bridges and related structures.
• Provide technical input across a highways scheme with multiple bridges and walls.
• Design reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel or composite bridges.
• Apply UK standards and Eurocodes to deliverables.
• Carry out structural analysis and develop compliant solutions.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, specs and reports.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide delivery.
• Collaborate with project teams to deliver outputs.

Our client is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to support a major highways infrastructure project involving the design and assessment of bridges, culverts and retaining walls. The role will focus on hands‑on bridge design for a large scheme and is offered on a contract basis, with the flexibility to work remotely or from Manchester one day per week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Undertaking the detailed design and assessment of bridges and associated civil structures
• Providing technical input across a highways scheme involving multiple bridges, culverts, bespoke headwalls and retaining walls
• Designing reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and steel or composite bridge structures
• Applying UK bridge design standards, DMRB requirements and Eurocodes to project deliverables
• Carrying out structural analysis and developing practical, compliant engineering solutions
• Preparing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports
• Supporting technical delivery and providing guidance to junior engineers
• Collaborating with project teams and stakeholders to deliver high-quality bridge engineering outputs

Job Requirements:

• Significant experience in bridge engineering within the highways or civil infrastructure sector
• Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, UK bridge design standards and DMRB requirements
• Demonstrable experience in the design and assessment of bridges and civil structures
• Technical expertise in reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and steel or composite bridges
• Proficiency in structural design and bridge or structural analysis software
• Experience with Midas Civil would be beneficial
• Strong understanding of bridge assessment, loadings and structural behaviour
• Ability to mentor junior colleagues and guide technical delivery

Contract Details:

• Contract duration of approximately 12 months
• Start available as soon as possible
• Full-time commitment of 40 hours per week
• Remote working available, ideally with one day per week in Manchester
