Job summary

Brunel University London is seeking a Senior Technician (Biosciences) to support teaching and research within the Biosciences laboratories. You will prepare and support practical classes, manage stock, and provide guidance to students and staff while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

The role requires a biological sciences degree (or equivalent), plus laboratory teaching experience in higher education and qualifications such as RSciTech, First Aid at Work, and PAT.

Qualifications

• Degree or relevant qualification in biological sciences, or substantial equivalent experience.
• At least two years' laboratory-based teaching experience in higher education.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk assessment, and financial/procurement processes.

Responsibilities

• Support teaching and research laboratories, ensuring safe, efficient operation.
• Prepare stock solutions, cell lines, biological samples, equipment and consumables for practicals.
• Provide technical guidance and demonstrations to students and staff; support research activities.
• Manage laboratory stock and procurement; arrange equipment servicing and maintenance; ensure waste disposal procedures are followed.
• Write or update Standard Operating Procedures and assist the Principal Technical Manager in delivering technical services and health & safety oversight.
