Job summary

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Science Technician to support science labs and teachers. You will prepare equipment, assist with demonstrations, and help maintain a safe, well-organised learning environment.

The role emphasises practical lab support, good communication, and adherence to health and safety protocols, with DBS clearance and Right to Work in the UK required.

Qualifications

• GCSEs: minimum five passes at grade 4 or above.
• COSHH awareness or related experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with staff and students.
• Competent with IT tools and basic admin tasks.
• Ability to prioritise and plan workload effectively.
• Experience in a similar operational or support role is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set out equipment and materials for science lessons and demonstrations.
• Support safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals and equipment.
• Assist with cleaning and maintenance of laboratories and equipment.
• Carry out minor repairs on apparatus and stock, and replenish supplies.
• Provide administrative support, including photocopying, filing and displays.
• Follow health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
