About the Post
Senior Business Intelligence Analyst – 12‑month maternity cover contract. The role will commence 7 September 2026. The position is based in Barnsley Council and involves shaping data‑led decision making, leading BI projects, developing visualisations and supporting strategic and operational performance management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects with data developers and analysts to extract, integrate and analyse complex data from multiple systems using advanced SQL.
- Provide advice to senior leaders on strategic and operational performance management, identifying performance insights to inform business decisions and drive improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements, deliver complex work, gather insights and support new mechanisms to assess impact and measure performance.
- Develop and present data visualisations and dashboards using Power BI, SSRS, Visual Studio and Excel.
- Produce high‑quality, user‑friendly reports and dashboards that display complex information, statutory data and actionable recommendations.
- Ensure performance management information is timely, robust and used to improve data quality, share insights and strengthen accountability.
- Enable self‑serve capabilities for staff to access data.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proactive and analytical with a passion for using data to drive improvement.
- Substantial experience with data visualisation tools and specialist BI solutions to provide information to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Significant experience conducting data quality assessment, cleansing and profiling from multiple sources, integrating and transforming data.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, able to tailor messages and deliver to diverse audiences.
- Experience presenting information verbally at meetings, undertaking formal presentations and using modern technologies and digital tools to enhance performance.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build effective relationships across the organisation.
- A Level 6 qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
