Job summary

Unity Studio is a browser-based real-time 3D authoring tool. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Unity Studio team, you will own the cloud services behind the product: real-time multi-user collaboration, build and publishing pipelines, and the platform APIs the editor is built on.

You will join a fast-moving, cross-functional team where your work ships quickly and directly shapes the product. You will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and product managers from day one.

Qualifications

• Substantial professional experience designing, building, and operating backend services in production.
• Strong proficiency in one or more modern backend languages and flexibility to work across several.
• Solid grounding in distributed systems, API design, data persistence, and state management.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and containerized deployments.
• A track record of owning services in production, including monitoring, debugging, and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the backend services behind real-time collaborative editing, game publishing, and content delivery.
• Own systems end-to-end from design to deployment, monitoring, and running them in production.
• Evolve how the platform scales with stateful real-time workloads and service fleets in a cloud-native environment.
• Define the APIs and service contracts that editor and partner teams build against.
• Strengthen infrastructure and delivery practices including IaC, CI/CD, and automated deployment.
• Work with product and design to turn ambiguous problems into shipped, reliable features.
• Champion reliability and observability and lead incident response improvements.
• Mentor other engineers and raise quality through code review and design feedback.
