Unity's Web Platform team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to shape the architecture of the Web runtime embedded in browsers. This role focuses on deep, native work rather than general website development, helping decide where the platform goes next.
You will own technical direction, tackle complex root-cause analysis, and drive performance optimizations like code stripping, progressive asset loading, and multi-threading. Mentoring across the team and clear guidance to leaders are expected.
We are hiring for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Web Platform team here at Unity. Unity's Web platform lets games and real-time 3D content run in a browser, on any internet connected device. The platform is going through the biggest change in its history: browser capability has advanced, browser gaming is reviving, and an exciting new partnership with a major platform has put the Web runtime at the center of Unity's plans. We are looking for a senior engineer to help decide where it goes next.
This is a meaningful role for someone who wants to shape architecture, not just implement it. You will help own the technical direction of the Web platform, take on the problems nobody else has solved, and set the standard other engineers work to. This is not website development. We embed Unity inside the browser, and the work is deep and native. You will join engineers who helped invent the browser technology we build on, and you will be the person other teams across Unity come to when they need something from the core platform.
Help own the technical direction and architecture of the Unity Web platform
Resolve complex, multidimensional problems in the runtime, running deep root cause analysis and validating the fix against what developers actually need
Research, design and implement the optimizations that define what a Unity Web build can be, including code stripping, progressive asset loading and multi-threading
Prioritize and complete your own portfolio of platform work, agreeing the shape of it with your manager
Act as the first line of support for teams across Unity, and for partners, who need something from the core Web platform
Mentor engineers across the team and set the bar for code quality
Translate technical trade-offs into clear, concise recommendations for leaders across Unity
Expert level C++ in low-level, performance sensitive code
Substantial development experience with WebAssembly, using Emscripten and/or LLVM
A proven track record of owning architecture for a platform or runtime and validating it against real customer needs
Ability to run deep root cause analysis on complex, multidimensional problems
Ability to work independently, prioritizing against long-term platform goals
Effective written/verbal communication that boils deep technical detail down for teams outside your own
A proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar across a team
Experience working on the internals of a browser engine
Deeper domain knowledge of rendering, physics or audio in a real-time 3D engine
Familiarity with compression methodologies and code size optimization at scale
