Job summary

CreateFuture is seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer to design, build and scale backend systems in a cloud-first environment. You’ll lead architectural decisions, mentor engineers and help embed AI/automation across delivery.

Hybrid/remote options available with travel to Edinburgh occasionally. You’ll bring strong Java 8+ experience, Spring Boot, AWS and microservices expertise, plus a focus on secure, well-tested REST APIs and scalable data storage.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with modern Java (8+) and Spring ecosystem.
• Experience building cloud-based applications on AWS.
• Hands-on design and architecture leadership in microservices.
• RESTful API design with a focus on security and performance.
• Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins / GitLab CI).
• Familiarity with Git workflows and Maven/Gradle builds.
• Knowledge of observability tooling and distributed tracing.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical discussions.
• Experience with AI/automation initiatives is a plus.

• Promote automation to remove repetitive work.
