Job summary

CreateFuture is seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer to design, build and scale backend services. You’ll influence technical direction, mentor peers and help embed AI and automation into client solutions.

You’ll thrive on solving complex problems, collaborating openly, and delivering software with measurable business impact across hybrid and remote work setups. Edinburgh and other UK hubs may require occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot in modern environments.
• Cloud experience (AWS) and building scalable services.
• Designing secure RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
• Strong SQL/NoSQL data modeling and query optimization.
• Containerised deployments with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Maven/Gradle and JVM performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend systems using Java and Spring.
• Develop and evolve RESTful APIs with a focus on security and performance.
• Lead architectural discussions and drive technical direction.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices across the team.
• Shape AI and automation integration into delivery workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver client value.
