Job summary

The Guardian is seeking a Senior Backend Software Developer to join the Apps Experience team on a 12 month fixed contract. You’ll mostly program in Scala and Typescript, running in AWS, in a cross-functional, collaborative environment that values rapid iteration and shared ownership.

As a full stack engineer you’ll navigate both functional Scala back-ends and complex TypeScript front-ends, influence product decisions, and grow your skills alongside journalists and digital experts.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Scala back-end and TypeScript front-end development.
• Experience in a cross-functional, collaborative team environment.
• Ability to influence product and technical direction while writing quality code.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain services in AWS using Scala and TypeScript.
• Collaborate with editors, commercial teams and other developers.
• Participate in product decisions and engineering best practices.
