Kpler in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Maritime domain. You will lead backend architecture and real-time streaming services, turning vast vessel tracking data into actionable insights for global shipping and commodities.

You will work with Python, PHP, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and ClickHouse to design scalable microservices, own production reliability, and mentor peers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Proficient in Python and PHP with strong PostgreSQL knowledge.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka and ClickHouse.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and distributed microservices.
• CI/CD workflows and containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Operational mindset with observability and monitoring practices.

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale backend services for high-throughput workloads.
• Build real-time streaming and analytical pipelines using Kafka and ClickHouse.
• Optimize data persistence and storage with PostgreSQL and analytical stores.
• Own production health, reliability, and monitoring across environments.
• Collaborate with Product, Tech Leads, Cloud, and client-facing teams.
• Mentor peers and uplift engineering standards within Maritime domain.
