Job summary

Kpler is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to lead backend architecture for Maritime, building high-throughput services using Python and PHP. You will design streaming pipelines with Kafka and ClickHouse, optimize PostgreSQL schemas, and own production reliability with strong CI/CD and containerized deployments.

You will collaborate across Product, Tech Leads, Cloud Platform, and client-facing teams to modernize core services and raise engineering standards in a fast-moving maritime data

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong Python and PHP expertise with PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Kafka and ClickHouse.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs, distributed microservices, and high-concurrency architectures.

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale backend services: design, build, and maintain high-throughput backend applications and microservices using Python and PHP.
• Build real-time streaming & analytical pipelines: leverage Kafka and ClickHouse to stream, process, and analyze real-time maritime data.
• Optimize data persistence and storage: manage relational and analytical databases, optimize PostgreSQL and ClickHouse schemas.
• Own production health and reliability: implement monitoring, alerting, and observability across staging and production.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration: work with Product, Tech Leads, Cloud Platform, and client-facing teams.
• Elevate engineering standards and mentorship: lead design reviews and best-practice adoption within Maritime domain.
