Job summary

Tembo is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build and own systems powering our mortgage and savings platform in the UK. You will design, implement, ship, and operate production software, handling complex financial workflows and lender integrations.

You’ll collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to turn problems into reliable solutions, take end-to-end ownership, and drive reliability, observability, and performance across critical services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building production backend systems.
• Experience designing, delivering, and owning production systems end-to-end.
• Strong knowledge of data modelling and system design.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and ship backend services powering Tembo's mortgage and savings platform.
• Own data modelling, deployment, monitoring, reliability, and performance of systems.
• Collaborate with product and operations to translate problems into reliable software.
• Improve codebase structure and balance simplicity with reliability.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, reviews, and testing practices.
