Job summary

Additional Resources is seeking a Software Developer/Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain high-performance backend solutions in C++ and Java on Linux. You will lead technical development of components, services and APIs, delivering scalable, secure software with mentoring for junior staff.

The role offers up to £78,000 with relocation support for the right candidate, plus a benefits package including healthcare, pension and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Valid SC security clearance at the time of application.
• Approx 5 years of commercial software development experience using C++ with some Java in Linux environments.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience investigating, diagnosing and improving software performance in Linux environments.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns and object-oriented programming.
• Background in developing enterprise-level backend applications, APIs and distributed systems.
• Understanding of multithreading and concurrent application development.
• Experience working with Agile development environment & relational and/or NoSQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing and maintaining backend applications using C++ and Java within Linux environments.
• Leading the technical development of software components, services and APIs.
• Producing reliable, scalable and maintainable code with a strong focus on performance and security.
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior and mid-level developers.
• Contributing to software architecture, technical decisions and development roadmaps.
• Reviewing code and promoting consistent engineering standards and development practices.
• Diagnosing and resolving complex software issues, including problems involving third-party dependencies and customer libraries.
• Building and supporting RESTful APIs, microservices and distributed applications.
• Using static analysis, profiling and debugging tools to improve software quality and performance.
• Containerising applications with Docker to support deployment and scalability.
• Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps processes.
