Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a backend engineer toDesign, develop and maintain high-quality backend services using TypeScript in a cloud-native, serverless environment. You will work with AWS Lambda and API Gateway to build secure, scalable APIs and collaborate in an agile team to deliver robust systems.

Ideal candidates have strong TS expertise, hands-on AWS experience, and a passion for clean code, testing, and CI/CD.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience developing backend services and APIs
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript
• Experience designing and developing solutions using serverless architecture
• Strong practical experience with AWS cloud services
• Strong experience developing and deploying applications using AWS Lambda
• Understanding of event-driven and cloud-native application architectures
• Experience designing secure, scalable and resilient backend services
• Experience with RESTful APIs and integration with external or internal services
• Experience with automated unit and integration testing
• Experience using Git and modern software development workflows
• Understanding of clean code, modularity, maintainability, version control and design patterns
• Experience diagnosing and resolving application defects, performance issues and production problems
• Understanding of AWS Lambda and serverless application development
• Understanding of AWS services, event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, API integrations, AWS configuration and deployments, cloud security, monitoring, logging, reliability, scalability and cost efficiency
• Desirable: experience with API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, CloudWatch and IAM
• Desirable: experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly AWS CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform
• Desirable: experience with Node.js and the wider TypeScript ecosystem
• Desirable: experience designing RESTful or GraphQL APIs
• Desirable: experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Desirable: experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and Docker, event-driven messaging systems, cloud security, observability, performance optimisation, large-scale public-facing digital services, and regulated or security-conscious environments

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using TypeScript
• Design and implement serverless, cloud-native solutions
• Develop and maintain AWS applications and services, including AWS Lambda
• Build secure, scalable and reliable APIs and backend services
• Translate user and business requirements into maintainable technical solutions
• Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code
• Collaborate with frontend and mobile developers, designers, product managers, QA professionals and technical specialists in an agile multidisciplinary team
• Participate in technical discussions, code reviews and architectural decision-making
• Develop automated tests and contribute to CI/CD processes
• Investigate and resolve technical issues, defects, performance problems and production incidents
• Address security, accessibility, privacy, resilience, scalability and performance throughout the development lifecycle
• Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing, development standards, patterns and best practices
• Support an inclusive engineering culture and mentor colleagues where appropriate
