Job summary

Preply in London is seeking a Senior Back-End Engineer to design and own backend features using Python/Django within a hybrid, cross-functional team. You will collaborate with product, design, data analytics and other engineers to deliver high-scale services and integrations with third‑party vendors.

You should bring experience with architectural patterns, AI tooling, and strong problem-solving, plus a collaborative, self‑driven mindset and readiness to be on-call.

Qualifications

• Exposure to architectural patterns of a large, high-scale web application.
• AI Expertise: able to influence team with AI tooling and think beyond code.
• Willingness to support small JS/TS tasks when needed.
• Troubleshooting expertise with root-cause analysis and safeguards.
• High level of self-organization, ownership and responsibility.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; minimum B2 English.
• Willingness to be on-call for squad (1 week every 5 weeks).

Responsibilities

• Develop and own backend features using Python/Django, including integrations with third-party vendors.
• Think beyond the code and understand customer needs to define solutions with the team.
• Balance short-term speed with long-term technical quality of systems.
• As a Senior Engineer, guide the team with best practices, test culture, code reviews and scalability.
