Job summary

Preply is seeking a Senior II Backend Engineer in London to drive technical direction across multiple squads. You will design, build, and evolve scalable backend systems using Python/Django, and collaborate with product managers and senior leaders to shape roadmaps.

The role is hybrid with a global education platform, offering growth opportunities, mentorship, and a strong focus on reliability and performance across services.

Qualifications

• Experience with architectural patterns in large-scale web apps
• Proven track record leading complex, greenfield projects end-to-end
• Ability to shape architectural decisions and set engineering standards
• Strong communication in English (B2+)

Responsibilities

• Define technical direction across multiple engineering squads
• Lead complex initiatives from idea to delivery with cross-functional alignment
• Design, build, and evolve scalable backend systems using Python/Django
• Partner with PMs, EMs, and senior stakeholders to shape roadmaps and guide investments
• Mentor engineers and drive reliability, observability, and best practices
• Participate in on-call rotation (1 week every 5 weeks)
