Job summary

Axion Recruitment is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer for a high-speed manufacturing plant in the Oxford area. The role focuses on leading automation projects, PLC programming, robotics integration and tooling design to improve efficiency and quality.

You will mentor engineers and support new equipment and product introductions. Strong hands-on experience with PLCs, robotics and manufacturing automation is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of automation or manufacturing engineering experience.
• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience integrating and programming industrial robots.
• Knowledge of EOAT, fixture design, vision systems and sensors.
• Understanding of low-voltage controls and three-phase power.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• SolidWorks, Cimatron or similar 3D CAD experience.
• Knowledge of machine safety standards and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation, robotics and tooling projects from concept through implementation.
• Program and troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment.
• Integrate and optimize 3-axis, 5-axis and 6-axis robotics.
• Design parts, fixtures and End-of-Arm Tooling using SolidWorks or Cimatron.
• Support vision systems, sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics and motion controls.
• Lead new equipment, product and automation validation.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement corrective actions.
• Manage capital equipment specifications, justification and installation.
• Improve automation performance, downtime, cost and process capability.
• Develop automation standards and mentor engineers and technicians.
