Job description

Are you a very experienced Automation Engineer? Do you have a background in warehouse automation installations? Can you manage multiple installations?

Here at GXO, we are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join our central, Technical Service team.

The role will be covering the UK and IE. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of client side fit out / construction development projects between £200k - £15m+ from inception to completion. This includes feasibility planning, budgeting at concept stage, preparation of tender documents and user requirement specifications, coordinating with automation providers, architects, engineers, contractors, other stakeholders, and end to end project management to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

You will also be responsible for managing project budgets, schedules, and resources, as well as ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. You will have a strong background in project management, engineering, and automation installations, with excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and navigate the complexities of automation implementations including CDM and MF1 contract requirements. You should also be able to coordinate and test equipment to the specified functional design to industry best practice standards.

You’ll be working Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00. We offer flexibility in your work location due to the significant travel involved. While you will need to be on-site for the project, you will also have the option to work from home when not on-site and manage your own schedule.

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £75,000.00 per annum, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Liaising & working with senior stakeholders across all parts of the business
  • Acting as subject-matter expert for technical and engineering project matters across all parts of the business
  • Complete URS and Tender specification documents ensuring the full design includes all requirements
  • Support solutions with design proposals ensuring that they work to operational design expectations
  • Creation of technical specifications and scoping documents for building fitouts and leading and co-ordinating external consultant engineering teams
  • Ensure all automation providers and installations are working to industry MF 1 rev7 and is included in contracts and compile and complete detailed testing using the TOC testing process

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Proficient in MS Project and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook) – essential
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD design preferred, although training can be given
  • Automation installation experience, preferably in the logistics sector – essential
  • Broad knowledge of most automation solutions and willingness to learn about new technology - essential
  • Formal H&S – IOSH as a Minimum NEBOSH general preferred and Engineering qualification Electrical or Mechanical – engineering qualification essential
  • Experience of surveying commercial buildings for intended purposes with a good understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems - preferred
  • Excellent communication skills at senior management levels with flexibility to travel the whole of the UK & Ireland with occasional overnight stays away from home
