Job summary

Capital One UK in Nottingham is seeking a seasoned AML and sanctions compliance professional to join the team as a Principal Associate. Reporting to the UK MLRO, you will own the end-to-end control environment from onboarding to ongoing monitoring.

This permanent hybrid role requires designing risk-based processes, leading 2nd-line assurance, updating policies, and coaching teams to improve SAR quality. Three in-office days (Tue-Thu) with two days remote.

Qualifications

• A deep, practical understanding of the UK financial crime framework, including the MLRs, JMLSG guidance, POCA, and UK/OFSI sanctions regimes.
• Proven experience conducting end-to-end financial crime reviews in high-volume environments.
• Accredited industry qualifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement risk-based AML and CDD processes including identifying and verifying legal entities, UBOs, Directors, and PSCs, plus Sanctions and PEP screening and Transaction Monitoring.
• Deliver AML projects, system implementations, and compliance reports on time.
• Write and update policies, procedures, and annual training.
• Provide QA feedback to improve SAR quality.
• Align AML requirements with UK regulatory standards and JMLSG guidance.
• Perform second-line assurance to catch vulnerabilities before regulatory breaches.
• Lead resolution of risk events and tune monitoring rules.
• Foster relationships across the business for proactive control support.
• Ensure frontline AML checks are comprehensive and effective.
• Provide credible challenge in complex onboarding and PEP/Sanctions scenarios.
