Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking an AMHP Senior Social Worker to join the countywide AMHP Service. This permanent role requires a social work qualification with AMHP status and offers a 37-hour condensed week across Essex, with pro-rata for part-time.

The post includes a £48,205–£57,988 salary plus a £2,400 AMHP allowance and a 10% flat-rate allowance. The role involves leading complex Mental Health Act assessments, coordinating the AMHP rota, and ensuring statutory duties are met.

Qualifications

• Qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration.
• Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Mental Health Act 1983 recognised by ECC.
• Willingness to travel across Essex and hold a driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, specialist advice and professional expertise for AMHPs.
• Undertake statutory assessments under the Mental Health Act and triage initial enquiries.
• Coordinate and manage the AMHP rota and complex case workloads.
• Maintain accurate data, reports and presentations for service management.
• Collaborate with statutory and non-statutory agencies to ensure joined-up practice.
• Demonstrate leadership in practice standards and risk management.
