Job summary

Essex County Council’s Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service is expanding, recruiting experienced AMHPs to join a dynamic team delivering Mental Health Act assessments across Essex. You will lead complex cases, supervise colleagues, and shape service development in a countywide hub-and-spoke model.

The role offers a 37-hour condensed week over four days with occasional flexibility, travel across Essex, and base at a dedicated AMHP hub in Danbury, Chelmsford.

Qualifications

• Qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration.
• AMHP with MHA 1983 expertise.
• Significant experience in triaging mental health act referrals.
• Ability to mentor new and experienced team members.
• Strong risk assessment and complex case management skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver AMHP rota and undertake statutory MHA assessments.
• Provide supervision and expert advice for AMHPs.
• Coordinate referrals, triage inquiries, and allocate tasks across the team.
• Lead practice improvements and maintain accurate data and reports.
• Travel around Essex and base at Danbury, Chelmsford when coordinating duties.
