Job summary

Vertical Aerospace seeks a Senior Design Engineer to own airframe designs from concept to installation in our Bristol-based Airframe team. You will balance structural integrity with manufacturability and certification needs, coordinating engineers and contractors across powerplant, fuel-system and other aircraft interfaces.

You will mentor junior engineers, ensure data is supported by evidence, and collaborate with manufacturing and flight-test teams to resolve issues quickly and safely, driving

Qualifications

• > Established experience delivering complex mechanical or structural designs in a safety-critical or highly regulated environment.
• > Strong theoretical understanding of airframe structures with pragmatic application.
• > Experience taking inherited/incomplete designs through manufacture, release, build or installation.
• > Experience approving/checking engineering drawings and reports.
• > Broad structural design experience with systems interfaces.
• > Knowledge of full product development lifecycle including verification and certification.
• > Experience coordinating delivery across engineers/contractors.
• > Ability to make sound decisions under scrutiny with evidence-based approach.
• > Strong communication and organisation skills in fast-moving delivery.

Responsibilities

• > Own airframe designs from definition through manufacture, release, build and installation.
• > Develop pragmatic design solutions balancing structural, manufacturing, integration and certification needs.
• > Approve and release engineering drawings, data and reports.
• > Act as a checking signatory ensuring data is accurate and evidenced.
• > Coordinate internal engineers and contractors.
• > Integrate airframe with powerplant, fuel-system and other systems.
• > Work with manufacturing, assembly and flight-test teams to resolve issues.
• > Compile verification and certification evidence for safety readiness.
• > Challenge weak assumptions and manage technical interfaces.
• > Mentor junior engineers and support their development.
