Job summary

National Physical Laboratory is seeking an AI Scientist/Software Developer to advance AI assurance and evaluation methods. You will develop ML models, build reliable AI software, and document findings while collaborating with researchers and engineers across internal and external teams.

The role emphasizes responsible AI, rigorous testing, and delivering impact to clients through project delivery within the Data Science & AI department.

Qualifications

• Degrees in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms.
• Experience with statistics and data analysis.
• Proficient in Python or similar languages.
• Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms and software development practices.
• Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development.
• Experience in computing environments and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement machine learning and AI models.
• Develop test and evaluation protocols on ML/AI models.
• Assist in data pre-processing, feature engineering, and exploratory data analysis.
• Contribute to building scalable and maintainable AI software systems.
• Debug, test, and improve existing models and codebases.
• Document workflows, models, and results clearly.
