Job summary

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) seeks a Strategy & Engagement Manager to shape and deliver national AI initiatives. You will coordinate cross-functional teams, engage with government, industry and international partners, and drive strategic work across the AI measurement programme.

You will work from our London-area site (Teddington) with occasional travel to Glasgow and Cambridge, and additional travel as projects expand. Flexible, collaborative, and policy-aware work is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience managing complex projects in AI policy, governance, or technical research.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-management skills.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver end-to-end projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.
• Collaborative, proactive approach in fast-moving environments.
• Interest in AI governance and technical dimensions of AI.
• Experience working with UK government departments or national missions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and drive stakeholder engagement activities across government, industry, academia, regulators and international partners.
• Lead the national and international stakeholder engagement strategy for the AI projects portfolio.
• Deliver and grow the AI assurance innovation network and community of practitioners.
• Collaborate with AI strategy teams to plan and deliver initiatives improving AI testing and evaluation.
• Create external-facing materials to communicate programme aims to stakeholders.
• Translate technical research into clear outputs for government, industry and international audiences.
• Represent the programme in meetings and events with non-technical audiences.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver shared programme outcomes.
