Job summary

CFC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (AI & ML) in London to shape agent-based underwriting systems. You’ll design and run production AI agents, build the runtime, APIs, and data services, and implement guardrails with observability.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building LLM-based agents or agentic systems in production.
• Experience with orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain, or equivalent systems.
• Strong understanding of failure modes in agent-based systems and how to engineer around them.
• 5+ years’ professional software development experience in Python or other backend languages.
• Experience with asynchronous and concurrent programming and unit/integration testing.
• Experience delivering software with AI coding agents in production.
• Experience designing end-to-end systems, including service boundaries and data flows.
• Strong relational database and data modelling experience (PostgreSQL).
• Experience with distributed, asynchronous microservices using message brokers (Azure Service Bus).
• Experience building clear RESTful APIs (FastAPI).
• Cloud and IaC: Azure and Terraform; hands-on IaC essential.
• Experience with Docker and production container platforms (Azure Container Apps, Kubernetes GKE/ECS).
• CI/CD workflows and YAML pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and run production AI agents that automate underwriting decisions over unstructured data.
• Build the agent runtime with orchestration, durable state, retries and long-running workflows.
• Develop tools, APIs and data services that agents call with clear contracts and auditability.
• Engineer guardrails and human-in-the-loop checkpoints for high-stakes automated decisions.
• Instrument, monitor and troubleshoot agents and services in production with tracing, cost, latency and decision logs.
• Drive system design and architectural decisions for agents and surrounding services.
• Design and evolve data models and database schemas supporting submissions, agent runs, decisions and audit trails.
• Provision and manage cloud infrastructure through Terraform and raise production standards across agent-generated code and tests.
• Collaborate with business, product and engineering teams to set delivery cadence and pragmatic quality improvements.
• Support engineers through code reviews, best-practice guidance and knowledge sharing.
