Job summary

CFC Underwriting seeks a Senior Software Engineer (AI & ML) to design and build production AI agents that automate underwriting decisions over unstructured data. You will develop the agent runtime, orchestration, durable state and long-running workflows, while delivering clear APIs, auditability and robust failure handling.

You'll collaborate with ML engineers to monitor, troubleshoot and improve performance, latency and cost.

Qualifications

• Experience building LLM-based agents in production.
• Strong orchestration framework knowledge and AI tooling.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one other backend language.
• Experience with cloud patterns and IaC.
• Experience with databases and data modeling.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and run production AI agents that automate multi-step underwriting decisions over unstructured data.
• Build the agent runtime, including orchestration, durable state, retries and long-running workflows.
• Develop tools, APIs and data services that agents call, with clear contracts and auditability.
• Engineer guardrails, human-in-the-loop checkpoints and fallbacks for high-stakes automated decisions.
• Instrument, monitor and troubleshoot agents and services in production, including tracing and logs.
• Drive system design and architectural decisions for agents and surrounding services.
• Design and evolve data models and database schemas for submissions, agent runs, decisions and audit trails.
• Provision and manage cloud infrastructure through Terraform.
• Collaborate with business, product and engineering teams to set delivery cadence.
• Mentor other engineers via code reviews and knowledge sharing.
