Job summary

Salford City Council is building an AI-first digital transformation team. We are seeking an experienced engineer/developer to design, develop and deploy AI/ML solutions using Azure as the core platform, across data preparation, training, deployment and integration into council systems.

You will collaborate with the Senior AI/ML Engineer and wider digital teams to deliver production-ready solutions, governance and responsible AI practices, while contributing to continuous improvement and cost

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing, developing and deploying solutions in production environments.
• Strong familiarity with Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Exposure to cloud-native delivery environments (Azure, Salesforce, ServiceNow, UiPath, Power Platform) with lifecycle understanding.
• Awareness of data structures, databases and basic analytics (SQL or equivalent).
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy AI/ML solutions within Azure ML and Azure Foundry, integrating with platforms.
• Assist model training, evaluation and deployment using established frameworks.
• Support data pipelines for preparation, testing and monitoring of models.
• Establish AI development toolchain and target architecture focusing on Azure-native tooling.
• Apply MLOps concepts (CI/CD, versioning, retraining pipelines).
• Collaborate with architects, service teams and Senior AI/ML Engineer to translate requirements into solutions.
• Contribute to governance, security, and transparency in AI solutions.
• Stay current with emerging AI research and build an internal culture of innovation.
• Monitor Azure consumption and provide spend visibility to leadership.
