Job summary

Howden invites applications for a Senior Consulting Actuary to join the Insurance Actuarial & Longevity (IAL) team. You will work with life insurance clients on capital, risk and regulatory projects, delivering complex analyses and developing innovative modelling approaches.

You will help grow client relationships, mentor junior colleagues and contribute to market-facing propositions, while modernising actuarial processes through digital tools and efficient workflows.

Qualifications

• Qualified Actuary status with at least three years’ post-qualification experience in life insurance or consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of Solvency UK and related regulatory frameworks (Solvency II, Bermuda).
• Experience developing, reviewing or validating risk-based capital models and calibration methodologies.
• Knowledge of capital management and risk management frameworks within life insurance.
• Experience applying technology/digital solutions to enhance modelling and actuarial processes.
• Programming experience in Python or R would be advantageous.
• Understanding of current and emerging topics affecting life insurers.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
• Experience managing projects and delivering high-quality client outcomes.
• Collaborative mindset and commitment to developing others.
• Ability to contribute to business development and market presence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver client projects across capital, risk and regulatory consulting engagements.
• Support life insurance clients with risk-based capital modelling, model validation and capital management activities.
• Work on regulatory applications, business transfer projects and M&A-related assignments.
• Help modernise actuarial processes through digital tools and innovative modelling techniques.
• Build strong relationships with client stakeholders and act as a trusted adviser.
• Develop project scopes, manage delivery timelines and ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Contribute to research, thought leadership and new client propositions.
• Support business development by identifying opportunities and increasing market presence.
• Develop and maintain a professional network across the life insurance sector.
• Participate in industry conferences and events to raise the IAL team profile.
• Coach, mentor and support junior colleagues; foster a collaborative and high-performing culture.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the wider consulting business to deliver integrated solutions.
