Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACCA/ICAEW or equivalent or qualified by significant relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients including annual accounts, tax returns, onboarding and ongoing client support.
• Lead client sign-off meetings, present accounts and provide proactive financial advice.
• Own client assignments with independent work and solid professional judgment.
• Review work from trainees and juniors to ensure accuracy and high standards.
• Develop strong client relationships and deliver excellent service for retention.
• Meet prospective clients, identify requirements, and help convert new business opportunities.

• Represent the firm in the local community and professional networks.
• Collaborate across the group to improve processes and resource management.

Senior Accountant

Location: Thatcham, Berkshire

Hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Thursday, 9am - 3pm Fridays

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000

Holiday: 28 incl. Bank holidays

Our client is a multi-office, chartered accountancy firm, providing services across Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol and beyond. They also provide specialist services including crypto tax, wealth planning, wills and probate, giving clients access to accounting, tax, business and legal expertise under one firm. As a Senior Accountant you will lead and manage a portfolio of clients, taking ownership of accounts, tax returns, advisory work and providing commercial insight.

Lead, mentor and develop team members, including trainees, reviewing their work, setting high standards and providing guidance while working with autonomy and professional judgement. Drive client service and business development by leading client meetings, developing new opportunities, promoting the practice through professional networks and collaborating across the group to improve processes, performance and resource management.

Position Duties

• Manage a portfolio of clients, overseeing annual accounts, tax returns, onboarding and ongoing client support.
• Lead client sign-off meetings, presenting accounts clearly, discussing key findings and providing proactive commercial and financial advice.
• Take full ownership of client assignments, working independently and applying sound professional judgement with minimal supervision.
• Review work prepared by trainees and other team members, ensuring accuracy and maintaining high technical and professional standards.
• Develop and maintain strong, trusted client relationships, delivering excellent service to support client satisfaction and retention.
• Meet with prospective clients, identify their requirements and contribute to converting new business opportunities.
• Lead, mentor and support team members, including trainees, encouraging their professional development and progression.
• Represent and promote the firm within the local community and through relevant professional networks.
• Work collaboratively across the wider group to improve processes, optimise workflows and make effective use of resources.
• Ensure billing, client records, documentation and service delivery are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.

Position Requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACCA, ICAEW or equivalent), or qualified by significant relevant experience, with strong technical accounting and tax knowledge.
• Extensive accountancy practice experience, including managing a varied client portfolio across accounts, tax, advisory and compliance.
• Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience mentoring, developing and supporting team members.
• Strong commercial awareness, including billing, fee proposals, WIP, recoveries and identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
• Excellent client relationship skills, with the ability to build trust, understand business objectives and provide proactive, commercially focused advice.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute to the wider practice.

Position Remuneration

• Strong work from home opportunity with, 3 office-based days and 2 work from home days available, upon successful completion of probationary period.
• Salary up to £60,000 dependent on experience.
• 20 days of annual, plus 8 bank holidays, along with company pension.
